BOGUS
so
You say gods devoured the earth
and the fires (fiery) rumbled beneath.
That so, khaki Jones?
Sometimes I think you really say they roared
sometimes gasped
and sometimes you say they even ran away.
So which is it?
You say people ran around
and the gods ran after them
or is it - so say you - that the people ran after
and the gods around?
When did it all stop revolving?
The monsters with their scales stomped
and left their marks
and the lava came up from a pipeline
(the miner says he made it)
and somehow it turned to fire
and someone made it into fireworks
that we loved -
other than the little kid
holding his stuffed reptile toy,
who cried a little then.
He felt dizzy.
He'd been on a ferris wheel
but it stopped in mid-air
way before the spark show.
The show was highlighted by the guy
with the moustache and toupee,
called Elvis with Wings,
singing Sinatra on the sidelines,
while in the center was a circus
(or maybe Odysseus)
(or maybe both).
The little boy asked his mother if
the rings were always there
and she told him the gods lived on earth
once, one time, so that's an answer,
and she clapped for the spectacle.
The little boy felt dizzy
and didn't like fire,
so he grew up working in a circus
playing Orpheus.
