THE ENVIRONMENT
If I carried a cloth shopping bag
And did my part for goodliness and politics and air,
Would I change my views on gods and mannequins?
Does one part lead to another?
I would like to think I could entrust one system with the next,
Do the work and work for the working,
Put my slot in the machine and thereby fix myself.
But how would I know which slot? How and when and where?
Which bag bearing what design?
And what would I do with the plastic?
If I walked into the supermarket in Birkenstocks,
I don't think anyone would notice me more.
